San Isidro - Kayaks, Boats, Mountains, Dolphins and More!

November 28th, 2013

Happy Thanksgiving!

"You cannot plan the impact you are going to have and often will not recognize when it is happening"

San Isidro is thirty kilometers north of the southern tip of the South American continent (Cabo Froward). Huge mountains rise from the Strait of Magellan with views of Tierra del Fuego and Dawson Island. Many wild animals such as black browed albatross, dolphins, penguins and sea lions make their home here. Other animals like humpback whales and orcas visit sometimes as well.
There is a couple that stays year round taking care of the lighthouse and running a small hotel. Their names are Eduardo and Rosita, and they are great! I lived with them for three weeks, helping run the hotel and guiding tours in kayak, climbing mountains and in zodiac boats. Thanks to everyone involved in Whale Sound to make this possible. And a special thanks to Marcelo and Carlos.

San Isidro Lighthouse

Sea water hot tub heated by a wood stove with a view of the Strait of Magellan. Wow.

Full moon rising - view from the hot tubs

Dolphins love to play and have fun with zodiac boats

We climbed Mount Tarn

We took a zodiac ride on the Strait of Magellan from San Isidro to Carlos III. The hill that is in the middle of this photo is Cabo Froward, the southernmost point in the South American Continent.

You can see Carlos III island in the top left and San Isidro and Cabo Froward on the right.
