Hawaii Pt 1

Hawaii

I flew to Hawaii on September 10th from San Diego, CA. Devon and his two friends picked me up from the Honolulu airport around 3pm. We drove straight to the woods and began a hike called 'Ice Ponds', which included 3 different waterfalls. The picture above is a picture of the 4 of us climbing down to the waterfalls. Devon then drove me around his hometown, the beautiful area around Kailua. Wow, what a beautiful place to call home.

The next day we woke around 7:30, dropped his girlfriend, Krystal off at work near Waikiki, and then headed to the beach to go surfing. The surf spot, which Devon remembers well from childhood, is at Waikiki beach. This is a very touristy spot, but there are some good surf spots for beginner and intermediate surfers. Devon said he'd teach me how to surf and we'd go every day I'm here (13 days). It was awesome! After surfing, we ate some local hawaiian BBQ and then met up with a couple girls from NY and headed to a resort owned by one of his friends. The resort has a private beach that we partied on for the afternoon. Ping pong, paddle boards, kayaks, sand volleyball, hiking, amazing views, and great people. Great fun.

I'm adapting the to Hawaiian lifestyle nicely. Very relaxed. Slow paced. Lots of surfing. The transition has been made easy by Devon's mom, Michelle, and grandma, Granny. They are letting me stay at their home, and they cook amazing meals for us everyday. What a blessing. Devon grew up in a very loving home.

Today we went on a hike to a couple more waterfalls that had high jumps from nearly 30 feet. On our way out of the neighborhood we parked in, we saw a peacock, and a girl walking close by. We stopped and Devon asked the girl if the peacock was hers. As she approached, I saw her eyes and knew instantly I knew her. "Annemarie!" I exclaimed. I jumped out of the car and she couldn't believe it either. An old friend from college; neither of us had any idea we were both in Hawaii. We will hang out soon.

Life is good.

Devon taught me the ropes of surfing. What a great instructor!
