A few concepts I believe are important:
1. Be Yourself
2. You can do anything you set your mind to
3. Live in the Now
4. Some recommended books
1. Be Yourself
As a child and through my university years, I tried to act like other people. Why? Because I wanted to be liked. Be cool. Be popular.
Little did I know that the coolest, most liked, most beautiful and attractive person is simply, the authentic and true you. Life is much more simple and fun when you act like yourself and do not try to be like someone else.
"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." - Dr. Seuss
2. You can do anything you set your mind to
Have your parents ever told you that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to? Did you believe them? Do you believe it now?
Unenthusiastically and seemingly annoyed, I replied, "Sure Mom and Dad." As a child, I did not believe my parents when they preached this. Little did my stubborn self know, my parents were right.
I continue to learn that anything is possible with a burning desire and commitment. Read some of my blogs or others people's stories and you will see this manifestation come true. What seems extremely difficult or impossible, is possible, and without stress. You have to try it to believe it. If you have ever wanted to travel, or really do anything other than what you are doing, then do it!
"You are here to enable the divine purpose of the universe to unfold. That is how important you are." - Eckart Tolle
"Because in the end, you will not remember working in the office or mowing your lawn. Climb that darn mountain!" - Jack Kerouac
3. Live in the Now
Living in the Now involves an awareness of your thoughts, feelings and surroundings. It is an acceptance of the situation, an awareness of breath. It is far simpler than our minds sometimes create.
"Measure your life not by the number of breaths, but by the moments when your breath was taken away."
"What makes a moment sacred is an awareness, an openness for sacredness."
4. "You will be the same person ten years from now except two things that influence who you are - the people you surround yourself with and the books your read." - Unknown
Here is a short list of books I find inspiring:
Eckart Tolle - "A New Earth"
Eckart Tolle - "The Power of Now"
Shakti Gawain - "Living in the Light"
